The Bread Maker Cometh

I officially revoke any excuse from any man about our role not being in the kitchen to some extent. Gentlemen, we can cook. We can do it. We can get in that sanctified temple of epicurious orthodoxy and dance with the foodie gods. And to prove it I have continued to add to my videos of of kitchen DIY’s. Now granted they started out as a bit of DIY and study in sustainability and homemade goodies. But after receiving a lot of wonderful comments and encouragement I have switched gears a bit to make the kitchen a bit more approachable to us farm boys. Enough of me talking though. Role the tape……..

I can’t take credit for this recipe though. It was inspired (and, in fact, stolen) from my dear friend Lacy Razor over at Razor Family Farms. Her post on Honey Wheat Bread made me think even I could do a little sum’in sum’in in the kitchen. Using just a few simple ingredients:

  • 5 cups white flour
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons yeast or use 3 tsp. baking powder + 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 ½ cups hot tap water

I made two loaves of bread all while increasing my confidence and enthusiasm in adding another homemade item to our sourced meals.

Thank you so much Lacy. I tell you. I was totally encouraged and inspired by your pics and your recipe. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t even have tried.

Now to respond to your list.

-the shirt is available here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/29449102/grow-your-own-food-retro-design-vintage
