Finally feeling the holiday spirit

It has been a week or so since I last blogged. Much has happened in a very short amount of time.

I want to first say thank you to every one of you who gave a donation or otherwise sponsored the charity: water cause I was involved with. We had some amazing numbers. We saw over 200 people. We took 292 portraits. We raised $1,970 (and still counting.) It was just a blessing for me and for the others involved. Pan and I even took a moment to take a few quick photos.

The past week also enabled us to finish all our Christmas gifts. I would love to share those photos with you but I don’t want to spoil any surprises for anyone. So, please check back just after Christmas for those images. I think you will really like them. I will give you a hint. They involve wood, fabric, thread, hot glue, candles and a lot of fruit! Does that help?

Yesterday my post on our hoop house was posted on Grit.com. You can read it here. It was awesome being featured as a guest writer on Lacy Razor’s blog. She is a dear friend and has her own wonderful homestead.

To make the situation even cooler, Jenn Nemec, Web Editor for Grit Magazine asked me to become a regular blogger on Grit.com. Of course I jumped at the chance. How cool is that? Now I can share with a larger audience our trials and tribs at Odom’s Idle Acres.

Let’s see…oh, my December has just been dominated by photo sessions. What a blessing – getting to do something you love and make some extra income at it. It seems I may be able to make a run of freelancing here. I will definitely need to update my website though and make it a little more functional for photo galleries. That remains to be seen though. It is a big step for me, I feel.

And lastly, Pan and I are jumping in the truck tomorrow around noon and heading to Kinston, North Carolina where she is from. We are going to spend Christmas there and I, for one, am quite excited! I love road trips and I love her family. So, it is going to be a wonderful holiday.

I hope that each of you are enjoying this time of year in your own special way. I have to admit that I no longer like leaving the chickens behind and with the lettuce growing so well…well, home is becoming more of a sanctuary. So, from my sanctuary to yours, Merry Christmas!
