What it is like to lose a chicken

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Yesterday morning when Pan was outside at the garden she decided to check the water inside the chicken coop. When she opened the door she saw Johntavious sitting next to one of the beds. He was motionless. She quickly realized that just yesterday he had laid an egg that had a soft shell and was [...]

Buying a House: 101

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

We found out yesterday that we were approved for the USDA rural loan program. Great news. Come to find out our credit is in the top 5% of the nation. We have a pretty decent debt ratio. Here is where we are though. We are really crunching numbers to see where we stand in terms [...]

Buying a House: 101

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Not much to report today. I sent some tax documents and pay stubs to the mortgage broker last night but found out today I have a few more to send. This part is an arduous process. Yesterday Pan and I crunched some numbers and realized that buying a house right now may not be economically [...]

UPDATE: Buying a House: 101

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

So far, so good. I did not start out by going to a traditional bank. After my earlier post I got a good tip about seeing a local mortgage office, Cindy Jones, of here in Barnesville. She was quite helpful and explained a couple of different options to me. You will note that Pan is [...]

Pickled Promises

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

For the past two weekends Pan and I picked cucumbers till our eyes were green. Then we brought ‘em inside, added some vinegar, sprinkled some garlic, put in a bit of dill and canned it all. Voila! Pickles…well, in six to seven months, of course.

Inspired again

I haven’t been to a church on my own accord in almost five years. I did attend a church several times in NYC but it more at the expectations of others rather than for my own benefit. I went closed-minded, half-hearted, and bitter. So, needless to say I got nothing out of it. When Pan [...]

A new step for Pan and I

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Pan and I have been living in community with members of my family now for nearly seven months. It has been a great time but as we start to think about starting a family of our own and begin to discover our like and dislikes as a married couple, we are starting to realize [...]

Grow Your Own Food

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

This morning I had a…well, not so special breakfast. I enjoy some scrambled eggs with a bit of southwestern flavor in that they had tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and cheese in them. Oh, and did I mention the eggs were from my hens, the veggies were picked minutes before from my garden, and the cheese [...]
