Does It Come With Cable

Cable Guys
Working from home is a wonderful privilege. However, it comes with some circumstance that do not really exist in the corporate workplace. In order to work I must have high speed Internet. For most work environments this is provided and is even maintained by some sort of IT person or company. I am my own IT guy and also Internet provider. I have been waiting for 10 days now for the cable guy to come out and hook up high speed ‘net, cable TV and even phone.

Two weeks ago I settled on Optimum Cable and their ‘Triple Play’ package. This includes high speed ‘net, cable and phone. Of course, I don’t have a home phone but it was actually cheaper to purchase this package than to get just ‘net and cable. Odd, I know. Whatever the case, the technician came today and within thirty minutes I had all services working like a charm. The Internet is indeed high speed and the cable TV is wonderful with 123 channels of flatscreen goodness. Note: cable providers no longer offer small “basic cable” packages. According to Optimum, 123 channels is “basic”. But what will all this cost?

The actual package is $92.65/month including applicable taxes. That breaks down to $29.95 a service plus a very small tax. The installation fee was $14.95 so all in all I had to pay $114.93. Optimum, of course, except all major forms of payment (including the odd card, Discover) and provided me with both a printed receipt and an email confirmation receipt.

The experience was great as the two technicians were quite personable and very hardworking. Their work was excellent and there was great attention paid to detail. To see some pictures of this process, you can click here and view great cable goodness.

Dude, that’s not bad…I pay $160 a month for the same thing (although I have two DVR boxes (extra $12)

I guess it isn’t that bad then. This may be a ridiculous question but what is the benefit of a DVR? I mean, for you…personally? Would you be as happy without one? (talking strictly in the conspicuous consumptive, lazy American voice here)

We have 2 in our house, one upstairs and one down.

It’s ideal for us because there are 2 couples, and we can record different programs without filling up an entire dvr.

I have no idea how much it breaks down by cost, though, as it’s included in my rent. :)

Nice! Included in your rent? Lucky duck! I guess mine could technically be included in my rent if I added the service. I mean, I pay the rent so I could just say it was “included”. hahahahahah

That is cheaper than mine and all I get is cable and internet. You know you will love you some HDTV. DVR is great too although I feel like I watch more tv now that I have one but oh well… I hope it won’t take them 10 days to come and fix your internet if something goes wrong. We both know how what happens if something like that happens.
