Where In The World Are You, Drew….And Why?

It seems that my globe trotting has left some folks wondering where I am most of the time and what I am doing. I guess I haven’t explained much. I originally intended to move to New York City by February 15th. I had everything set and even had an apartment lined up. At the last minute though MinuteFix offered me the opportunity to go to Paris to work alongside Diego, the CEO, and Gil, our financial advisor. It was a chance I couldn’t pass up.

MinuteFix, for those who don’t know, is the company I work for. I am the Community Manager and have a huge stake in the company; personally and professionally. We offer online tech support and our goal is to revolutionize both tech support and customer service. In order to do so though we are relying chiefly on venture capitalists. What is that you might ask? Well, venture capital is essentially private equity capital typically provided by professional, outside investors to new, growth businesses. Venture capital investments are generally made as cash in exchange for shares in the invested company.

A venture capital fund is a pooled investment vehicle (often a limited partnership) that primarily invests the financial capital of third-party investors in enterprises that are too risky for the standard capital markets or bank loans. Venture capital can also include managerial and technical expertise. It seems most venture capital comes from a group of wealthy investors, investment banks and other financial institutions that pool such investments or partnerships. This form of raising capital is popular among new companies, like MinuteFix, or ventures, with limited operating history, who cannot raise funds through a debt issue. So going to Paris was a way in which I could directly contribute to a step in achieving such funding.

After Paris I headed over to Scotland to visit my cousin Audra. It isn’t often that you can take time to get over to the UK for a week and stay so inexpensively and visit family while you are at it. It was a great week and although I still had to work, I got to see one of the most inexplicably beautiful countrysides in the world. While in Scotland Diego and I realized that the time was now for us to head to Silicon Valley in California and go after the major funding. I realized my time in Europe was over…for now. I couldn’t just head to CA though without first visiting some friends and enjoying parts of the US that I haven’t yet seen.

That is what brought me to Anguilla, Mississippi. I am hear visiting one of Britt and I’s dear friends, Emily. She and I first met at The South magazine where she was Associate Art Director and I was Sr. Project Manager. Although we had little in common at first our relationship blossomed most recently when our lives seemed to run parallel.

At some point I will move on from here and head towards California. There are still other people I would like to see beforehand though. Only time will tell as the quest for funding grows more desperate each day.

I hope this clears things up and I hope you are enjoying following me on my journey.
